Residential Care Facilities: A Key Sector in the Spectrum of Long-term Care Providers in the United States
Researchers with the National Center for Health Statistics of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed facility data from the 2010 National Survey of Residential Care Facilities (RCFs) to evaluate the market and differences among facilities by ownership structure, size, and services. About 40% of the 31,100 RCF) in the United State, such as assisted living facilities or personal care homes, had one or more residents during 2010 who had some or all of their long-term care costs paid by Medicaid. The 31,100 RCFs operated 971,900 beds.
