States Should Evaluate Family Caregiver Support Services By Tracking Demographics, Family Impact & State Support
States should monitor and track three key indicators to evaluate the effectiveness and adequacy of their family caregiver support services. The indicators are the demographics of the caregiving situation, the impact of caregiving on families, and the amount of state-level support for family caregivers.
Caregiving demographics include identifying the primary and secondary caregivers and identifying the care recipients, and their level and type of disabilities, and relationship to the caregiver(s). The demographics also include the level and duration of caregiving, types of caregiving tasks, the caregiver’s cultural perspectives, and the presence of informal support networks.
