ATA Advocates For Prescription Of Buprenorphine Via Telemedicine
On January 9, 2019, the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) issued a policy comment letter to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), advocating for changes to federal controlled substance prescribing rules for addiction treatment that would allow psychiatrists and physicians to prescribe buprenorphine via telemedicine. The DEA is preparing to issue a special registration regulation by October 23, 2019, to The Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008 (Act), under one of the seven “practice of telemedicine” exceptions in the Act.
