ACO HIT Adoption Varies & Most ACOs Struggle With Data Integration
As of August 2014, the types of health information technology (HIT) adopted by Medicare Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and ACO-like entities formed by other payers varies widely, according to a survey of 62 ACOs. About 88% said they face obstacles in integrating data from disparate sources, and 83% reported challenges integrating technology analytics into clinical workflows. Interoperability of disparate systems was cited as a significant challenge by 95% of ACOs using HIT, and all the survey respondents said accessing data from external organizations was a challenge.
