Terry Griffin reports on the business of delivering social and behavioral health services for OPEN MINDS Weekly News Wire, with a key focus on change in the external operating environment for non-profit organizations caused by new government policies, payer reimbursement methodologies, legal requirements issued by courts, competitors, and disruptive technology innovations. The beat also includes changes in consumer demographics, trends in utilization, and research findings on the evidence-base for clinical services. Since joining OPEN MINDS in 2006, Ms. Griffin has been the lead investigative journalist and production editor for OPEN MINDS, responsible for interviewing primary sources, writing, and fact checking each article in the weekly news issue.
Since 2007, she has trained and supervised a series of production assistant interns. Ms. Griffin was a member of the Society for Professional Journalists from 2010 through 2014, and has been a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists since 2014.
Prior to joining OPEN MINDS, Ms. Griffin helped a school-affiliated non-profit organization gain 501(c) 3 status in 2005. She served as treasurer for the organization from 2005 through 2010. While involved with the non-profit, starting in 2000, she was responsible for running several fundraisers, selling advertising, and maintaining records.
Her previous formal business experience includes four years’ operating a licensed home day care (1990-1994) in St. Helens, Oregon. She closed the business when her husband was transferred to Kara, Togo in West Africa for a four-year assignment.
Ms. Griffin is a 2005 graduate of the AACSB Internationally accredited John L. Grove College of Business at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, with a focus on Marketing, and a minor in English.
