Biography

Jess Jamieson, Ph.D. has over 30 years of experience in the management of behavioral health organizations in the private and public sector. He brings the OPEN MINDS team a broad range of executive management experience – including the management of organizational mergers — in both inpatient and outpatient settings.rnrnMost recently, Dr. Jamieson was the director of State Hospitals for the State of Washington, reporting to the Secretary of the Washington Department of Social & Health Services. Prior to that, he was the chief executive officer of Western State Hospital, an 800-bed, 2000-employee mental health treatment facility. Dr. Jamieson also served, for two decades, as the chief executive officer at Compass Health, a large non-profit community-based behavioral healthcare organization serving a full continuum of services in North Puget Sound in Washington State. While at Compass, he led the growth of the organization both from successfully expanding current programs and through the merger of five previously independent organizations in northwest Washington.rnrnThroughout his career, Dr. Jamieson has held multiple leadership roles. He served as associate director for both the Department of Psychiatry and the Sidney L. Sands Center Project at the Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. And, while at the San Joaquin County Mental Health Services in Stockton, California, Dr. Jamieson acted as program coordinator.rnrnIn 1994, Dr. Jamieson was appointed by the Governor as a member of the Western State Hospital Board. And, for several years, he was the chair of the Board of Directors of the Washington State Council of Community Mental Health Centers. In addition to his work with OPEN MINDS, Dr. Jamieson also serves on the faculty of the School of Social Work at the University of Washington. Additionally, Dr. Jamieson has consulted on several psychiatric and social service projects in Cambodia. He has also served as a mentor in the SAMHSA Mental Health Leadership Institute.rnrnDr. Jamieson received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, where he also holds a Master of Social Work. He also earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from Des Moines University, Osteopathic Medical Center. Dr. Jamieson earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming in Sociology.
