January Scott, MSW, brings over 30 years of experience in health and human services to the OPEN MINDS team. Her areas of expertise include outcomes and performance management, strategic planning facilitation, risk-based contracting, clinical and administrative process improvement, coaching, and technical assistance.
Ms. Scott is currently the President & CEO of JHS Solutions, LLC, a DBE/WBE business she founded in 2004, that is dedicated to assisting individuals, groups, and organizations in determining strategic direction and structuring accountability during times of uncertainty and change. For one of her projects, Ms. Scott serves as the Project Consultant for Demonstration Learning Communities, funded by the Kansas Children’s Initiative Fund. In this role, she is facilitating planning sessions with superintendents, principals, special education directors, Head Start personnel, teachers and others to institute integrated preschool services for children, ages three and four.
Previously, Ms. Scott served as the President & CEO of Kansas Innovations, Inc., a subsidiary of the Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL). Her responsibilities with the subsidiary included the development and market management of a software application developed by KCSL to support the privatization of child welfare services in Kansas.
Prior to serving in this position, Ms. Scott served for twelve years as the Director of Programs & Quality Assurance for KCSL, managing more than 40 different programs serving families and children throughout the state. During her tenure, the organization grew from $5 million to $54 million in 4.5 years which required performance-based outcomes reporting and risk-based financial implications, when the state privatized child welfare services. She also provided leadership in the development of the KCSL Quality Management Center, an operating unit that provided KCSL’s intake and assessment, utilization review/service authorization, cost/expenditure management, reporting, and evaluation research services.
Previously, Ms. Scott served in management positions with the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children; the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse (now known as Prevent Child Abuse America), and the Kansas Committee to Prevent Child Abuse.
Ms. Scott earned degrees from Washburn University in Topeka, KS, Barnes School of Business in Denver, CO, and Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. She is also a certified MBTI (Myers Briggs) Step I and Step II administrator, a certified core mediator by The Kansas Supreme Court, and a First Step Fast Trac Facilitator and Business Coach. In addition, Ms. Scott has earned her certification as a Coach and Master Practitioner from the International Institute for Humanistic Neuro- Linguistic Psychology.
