OPEN MINDS Releases Results Of The 2016 Technology Survey — Behavioral Health Moving Towards Consumer-Centric Tech

200+ health and human services executives surveyed on their organizations technology use, infrastructure, and plans for the future

Gettysburg, Pa. (November 20, 2016) — The OPEN MINDS Market Intelligence team recently released the findings of a survey of over 200 executives of health and human service provider organizations on their technology use and infrastructure. A preview of these findings was presented by Monica E. Oss, chief executive officer of OPEN MINDS during the opening keynote presentation of The 2016 OPEN MINDS Technology & Informatics Institute, and was reported on in The OPEN MINDS Circle Daily Executive Briefing, “From iPods To Cloud Computing – 2001 To Now

Results of the survey found that the most common technology tools in use today are operational – with 75% of organizations reporting that they used some type of financial management system; 64% reporting that they used a scheduling system for staff and/or consumers; 59% reporting that they used hosted storage and cloud storage tools; and 74% reporting that they used an electronic health record.

In the future, organizations are looking more towards consumer-centric tech. The top three technologies organizations plan to implement in the next year are consumer portal and personal health record tools (25%), telehealth technology (24%), and consumer engagement technologies (22%).

In the past fifteen years, health and human services organizations have increasingly adopted technology of all types from the mundane (e-mail) to the more sophisticated and exciting (robots). Understanding the ever-evolving and sophisticated world of health and human services technology — EHRs, smartphone apps, telehealth, text messaging, data cubes, smart glass, etc. — is imperative to organizations that want to survive. In addition to understanding the available technology, organizations also need to adopt the technologies that will work best for their organization and consumers. Navigating your treatment technology decisions involves considering strategy, deciding on functionality needs, and thinking through the optimal consumer interfaces.

The 2016 OPEN MINDS Health & Human Services Technology Survey is designed to provide an overview of technology use and infrastructure by provider organizations in the field. The survey includes information on:
