Value-Based Reimbursement Organizational Competencies The Focus Of OPEN MINDS June 2019 Seminar In New Orleans

Gettysburg, Pa. (November 25, 2018) – OPEN MINDS has announced their popular seminar on the competencies needed for success with value-based reimbursement, Succeeding With Value-Based Reimbursement: An OPEN MINDS Executive Seminar On Organizational Competencies & Management Best Practices For Value-Based Contracting, will take place at The 2019 OPEN MINDS Strategy & Innovation Institute on June 5, 2019 from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.

Recent surveys show that only about 40% of provider organization executives report being ready to implement value-based reimbursement (VBR), and only about one third of specialty provider organizations are already participating in VBR arrangements with payers (see The 2018 OPEN MINDS Performance Management Executive Survey: Where Are We On The Road To Value? and Pay For Value—The Glass Half Full, The Glass Half Empty? to learn more). But while the shift to VBR has been slow, the move to alternative payment models is increasing. Medicare has moved at least 30% of their reimbursement to alternative payment models, with the goal of 50% by the end of 2018, and there are at least 22 states (58%) with requirements for alternative payment models in their Medicaid managed care contracts (see The Push For Value-Based Reimbursement From State Medicaid Plans). To prepare for this shift to VBR, provider organizations need to develop new organizational infrastructure, as well as new technical and financial competencies to make the transition successfully. For executive teams of provider organizations, developing these new functional capabilities is key to sustainability and success.

“The transition to VBR presents new organizational, technical, and cultural challenges for specialty provider organizations that demand the creation of a new strategy for sustainability,” said Sarah Threnhauser, Executive Vice President, OPEN MINDS. “In this seminar, we will discuss how the shift to value-based reimbursement is impacting specialty provider organizations, the key competencies organizations need to succeed in the new VBR environment, and best practice solutions to assist with organizations as they align their finances to better embrace the shift.”

This executive seminar is designed to help provider organizations serving complex consumers navigate the management challenges of managing the transition to value-based reimbursement by focusing on the organizational and technical competencies organizations need to make the transition successful. By attending this seminar, executives will gain the ability to evaluate their organization’s readiness for value-based reimbursement, identify areas their organization can improve to prepare for the transition to VBR, and learn new competencies for success in a changing value-based market. In the seminar, attendees will:

  • Review the key competencies their organizations need to prepare for value-based reimbursement, including leadership, organizational infrastructure and financial management; technology infrastructure functionality; provider network management and clinical performance optimization; and consumer access and engagement.
  • Discuss how to assess their organization’s preparedness for VBR and steps to address gaps in organizational readiness
  • Explore examples of organizations that have gone through the readiness assessment process to prepare for value-based contracts

This executive seminar will be led by OPEN MINDS Senior Associate, David Wawrzynek, MBA. Mr. Wawrzynek brings more than 40 years of public behavioral health, clinical, financial, and management experience to the OPEN MINDS team.
