Centene Tops The List Of Insurers With The Most Medicaid Enrollees; OPEN MINDS Releases New Medicaid Market Share Report

Gettysburg, Pa. (February 3, 2019) – The new OPEN MINDS analysis of the Medicaid managed care market found that Centene is the insurer with the most Medicaid beneficiaries. This new analysis was released in the report, The 2019 OPEN MINDS Medicaid Managed Care Market Share Report. The analysis also found that the five largest insurers have 25.8 million Medicaid beneficiaries, representing 47% of the population enrolled in Medicaid managed care and 35% of the total Medicaid population.

The analysis identifies all insurers with more than 500,000 Medicaid members and their relative market share. Compared to 2017, the top five insurers remain the same, although the rankings have shifted slightly. Centene—the largest insurer in both years—had the largest increase in enrollment due to the acquisition of Fidelis Care, which had 1.2 million members in 2017. Overall, the market share of the largest plans increased by 4.2%.
