15% Increase In Number Of Organizations Using Telehealth Technologies — Results Released From The 2017 OPEN MINDS Health & Human Service Technology Survey
GETTYSBURG, Pa. (January 7, 2017) — The 2017 OPEN MINDS Health & Human Service Technology Survey showed a 15% increase in the use of telehealth technologies among provider organizations serving complex consumers. Of the larger organizations, those over $25 million in annual revenue, 44% reported using telehealth to serve their consumers. This was among the key findings from the survey results, which were announced for the first time during the opening session of The 2017 OPEN MINDS Technology & Informatics Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 7th, 2017.
“As we see more pressure to compete by both improving the consumer experience and reducing costs, emerging technologies play an increasing important role in organizational strategy,” said OPEN MINDS chief executive officer, Monica E. Oss. “While the health and human service sector lags in the technology adoption compared to other business sectors, I think that competitive forces will force organizations to close that gap as part of their sustainability strategies.”
Other key findings from the survey include:
- 84% of those provider organizations with revenue over $25 million and 75% with revenue below $25 million have an electronic health recordkeeping system
- Less than half of provider organizations in this sector of any size have health information exchange (HIE) capabilities
- Less than a third of these provider organizations use clinical decision support tools or population health management tools
- Only 20% of these organizations are using remote monitoring technologies
