This document was released on November 1, 2018, by the Indian Health Service (IHS) . The IHS announced the release of a new Internet Eligible Controlled Substance Provider Designation policy that is designed to increase access to buprenorphine and medication assisted treatment (MAT) of opioid use disorder for American Indians and Alaska Natives living in rural or remote areas.
