Dumont v. Lyon
On September 20, 2017, the five plaintiffs in Dumont v. Lyon sued the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to protest its failure to ensure that religious criteria were not used to exclude prospective foster and adoptive parents of children in foster care. The plaintiffs alleged that although DHHS is not permitted by law to use religious criteria in its child placing activities, DHHS allowed its contracted child placing agencies to do so.
