Minnesota DHS Children’s Residential Mental Health Services: IMD Status & Funding
The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) released the report in March 2018. DHS notified stakeholders that the federal Medicaid program is expected to determine that a number of Minnesota children’s residential mental health treatment facilities are Institutes of Mental Disease (IMDs). This will prevent the state from claiming federal Medicaid matching funds while children are in these facilities. Beginning May 1, 2019, counties are likely to become responsible for the entire cost of the treatment services provided in these facilities.
