UPMC v. Pennsylvania Attorney General, Over Petition to Modify The Consent Decrees
This lawsuit was filed in federal court by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) on February 21, 2019. UPMC filed this lawsuit in response to a motion to filed by the Pennsylvania Attorney General to force UPMC to modify its Consent Decree. The Attorney General’s petition maintains that the charities laws requires facilities to participate in other insurer networks. The state’s goal is to prevent UPMC from ending its business relationship with a competing insurer, Highmark Health, which would mean that UPMC facilities and professionals would not be part of the Highmark provider organization network.
