Young Adults With Type 1 Diabetes Are Three Times More Likely To Attempt Suicide
Young adults, aged 15 to 25 years, with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are three times more likely to attempt suicide than young adults without diabetes. Young adults with T1D are also 33% more likely to have a diagnosed mood disorder, 82% are more likely to visit a psychiatrist, and 29% are more likely to experience a psychiatric disorder, compared to young adults without diabetes.
The researchers concluded that the risks of psychiatric disorders and suicide are substantially higher in young adults with T1D, compared to those without. They hypothesize that young adults face diabetes management challenges in relation to competing . . .
