Virginia Medicaid To Move To Health Homes & Medicaid Expansion For SMI
On September 8, 2014, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe released details about the state’s plan to both implement Medicaid behavioral health homes and create a limited benefit Medicaid expansion plan for uninsured low-income adults with SMI not otherwise eligible for Medicaid. The waiver demonstration and behavioral health homes are two of the initiatives outlined in “A Healthy Virginia,” to expand health care services to over 200,000 Virginians. However, Virginia is not expanding Medicaid to all low-income uninsured adults. Through the plan, Governor McAuliffe authorized four emergency regulations and issued one executive order.
