Veterans’ Long-Term Care Expenses Rose 33% From 2014 To 2018
According to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) spending on long-term care services rose by 33%, from $6.8 in 2014 to $9.1 billion in 2018. During this period, the number of veterans using VA long-term care services rose by 14%, from 464,071 in 2014, to 530,327 veterans in 2018. Veteran eligibility for long-term care is primarily based on the extent of a service-connected disability. The VA projects that demand will continue to increase and that spending will double from about $6.9 billion in 2017 . . .
