Institutional Post-Acute Care Use By Medicare Beneficiaries Rose 5.36 Percentage Points Between 2000 & 2015
The adjusted percentage of hospital discharges to post-acute care increased about 5.36 percentage points, from 21.0% in 2000 to 26.3% in 2015. Of these discharges, 20.3% were discharged to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and 3.7% were discharged to inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs).
These findings were reported in "Trends in Post–Acute Care Use Among Medicare Beneficiaries: 2000 to 2015" by Rachel M. Werner, M.D., Ph.D.; and R.
