Web-based applications and websites that provide access to mental health treatment and information were easier for people with serious mental illness (SMI) to use when the application or site was designed according to the Flat Explicit Design Model (FEDM). The FEDM includes 18 design variables to reduce the cognitive effort needed to effectively use an e-health application.
