UMass Memorial Launches Internal NICU Telemedicine Program Throughout Its Community Hospital System
The UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMass Memorial) is launching a new telemedicine program to assist doctor’s in its community hospital system when they are delivering babies that may need more intensive services from neonatal care unit (NICU) doctors. Through a dedicated video portal, the NICU physicians can direct care, such as newborn intubation and resuscitation, at community hospitals. According to David Smith, associate vice president of Virtual Medicine, UMass Memorial is currently affiliated with five community hospitals for various telehealth services and may be the first to adopt teleNICU.
