U.S. Suicide Rate Rose From 0.8 Per 100,000 In 2000 To 2.0 Per 100,000 In 2016
Between 2000 and 2016, the suicide rate in the United States rose from 0.8 to 2.0 per 100,000 population. Suicides increased steadily for the "white non-Latino" population (from about 12 per 100,000 in 2000, to about 17 per 100,000 in 2016), and the overall population (from about 10 per 100,000 in 2000, to about 13.5 per 100,000 in 2016). Suicide-related injuries for the "black non-Latino" and "white Latino" populations remained largely unchanged during this timeframe.
