U.S. Alzheimer’s Death Rate At 34.4 Per 100,000; Highest In South Carolina
The national Alzheimer’s disease mortality rate in 2015 was 34.4 per 100,000 people. Across the states, the mortality rate ranged from 9.2 per 100,000 in Alaska, representing a total of 68 deaths due to Alzheimer’s disease; to 50.1 per 100,000 in South Carolina, representing 2,453 deaths due to Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Between 2000 and 2015, the rate of deaths related to Alzheimer’s disease increased 123%.
