Early Autism Treatment Estimated To Cut Long-Term Costs By 7%
Per-person lifetime autism-related costs to the government are projected to be about 7% lower for children who start intensive behavioral interventions (IBI) with no wait time compared to those who experience the current Ontario wait time of 32 months. Based on an analysis using published studies and data from Ontario, Canada, eliminating the wait time for services results in more independence for the individual, and generates substantial savings to the government.
The savings with no wait time were estimated at $53,000 in direct per person costs to the government and $267,000 inclusive of all long-term . . .
