Texas Supreme Court Allows State To Cut Medicaid Children’s Therapy Services
On September 23, 2016, the Texas Supreme Court ruled that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), which oversees Medicaid, could implement rate cuts of 20% to 25% for children’s therapy services. During 2015, the Texas legislature approved $350 million in budget cuts to Medicaid physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy for children with disabilities. However, lawsuits protesting the cuts prevented HHSC from implementing them.
