Texas To Increase State-Funded Youth Treatment Center Beds
On January 9, 2020, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) announced plans to increase the number of beds at residential treatment centers (RTCs) for children and youth ages 5 through 17 with severe emotional disturbance. The state intends to increase the number available statewide to 50, up from 40. The legislature appropriated $2.5 million to fund the additional RTC beds.
