Telemedicine Triage Kiosks In Group Homes Helped Reduce Emergency Department Visits By 11% Among New Yorkers With I/DD
Telemedicine triage kiosks placed in group homes for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) helped Alliance for Integrated Care of New York (AICNY) reduce emergency department visits by 11% during 2018. Inpatient admissions dropped by 7%, and inpatient expenditures dropped by 6%. About 80% of telemedicine kiosk encounters did not result in an emergency department visit. AICNY reduced total costs by $2.4 million.
The kiosks include a pole-cart on wheels with a wireless tablet with touch-screen, high-definition camera, and an Eko Duo Bluetooth stethoscope allowing the remote physicians to see a graphical representation of stethoscope . . .
