Risk Of Death After A Stroke Decreased By 24% Between 2000 & 2015
Between 2000 and 2015, the adjusted risk of death following a first stroke dropped by 24%, according to an analysis of survival trends among people referred to the South London Stroke Register (SLSR). For ischemic strokes, case fatality rates within the next 30 days declined by 38% and the fatality rate within one year declined by 37%. Ischemic stroke (the cause of 87% of strokes) occurs when a vessel supplying blood to the brain is obstructed.
