Rhode Island Unveils A $25 Million Plan To Expand Home-Based Care Options
On July 1, 2020, Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo announced a plan to invest $25 million to change the long-term care system to create more home- and community-based service (HCBS) options and strengthen the quality of care provided by nursing facilities. Before the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic emergency, about 61% of the state residents needing long-term care services lived in a congregate care facility or nursing facility.
The state Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) intends to strengthen long-term services and supports (LTSS) options through the following activities:
