For 39% Of Consumers With First-Episode Psychosis, Prescriptions Not Aligned With Best Practices
About 39% of people newly diagnosed with schizophrenia and taking one or more psychotropics received prescriptions that were not aligned with best practices in psychotropic prescribing. Of those whose prescriptions were not aligned with best practices, about 8.8% had received prescriptions for recommended antipsychotics, but at higher than recommended dosages. About 32.1% received prescriptions for olanzapine, and these prescriptions were often at high dosages. About 23.3% were prescribed more than one antipsychotic. About 36.5% were prescribed an antipsychotic and also an antidepressant without a clear indication for the reason. About 10.1% were prescribed psychotropic medications . . .
