Private School Vouchers Associated With Lower Rates Of Young Adult Criminal Activity
Public school youth who had participated in Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s private school voucher program in the 8th or 9th grades in 2006 had lower rates of conviction for criminal activity by ages 25 to 28. The participants also had lower rates of paternity suits. The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP) was enacted and launched in 1990s. The program offers annual private school vouchers valued at approximately $7,708 to low-income Milwaukee students whose family income does not exceed 300% of the federal poverty line (about $75,300).
