Use Of Insulin Pumps Reduced Preventable Hospital Admissions By 27% For UnitedHealthcare Members With Diabetes
On July 10, 2018, Medtronic plc and UnitedHealthcare (UHC) announced that their value-based arrangement for insulin pump users resulted in reducing preventable hospital admissions by 27% during the first year, compared to people who inject insulin multiple times per day. Since July 1, 2016, Medtronic has been UHC’s preferred insulin pump supplier for adults enrolled in UnitedHealthcare Commercial and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan (Medicaid). The initiative involves 6,000 UHC members using the Medtronic MiniMed(TM) 630G and previous generation insulin pumps.
