People With Disabilities 2.6 Times More Likely To Experience Food Insecurity
Adults with disabilities were about 2.6 times more likely to live in a food-insecure household than adults without disabilities between 2011 through 2014. The highest risk was among adults with mental health disabilities, and the risk for this group increased with age. Compared to adults with no disabilities, adults with mental health disabilities were three to five times more likely to live in a food-insecure household. The risk for adults with mental health disabilities was higher than the risk for adults with other types of disabilities, such as ambulatory, cognitive, hearing, or vision.
