Pennsylvania Jails To Launch Stepping Up Initiative To Reduce Number Of Inmates With Mental Illness

On April 4, 2017, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Secretary John Wetzel and Richard Cho, director of behavioral health at The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center announced that Pennsylvania was joining the Stepping Up Initiative to reduce the number of people with mental illnesses in county jails. Stepping Up is a national initiative that began in May 2015; it was developed by the CSG Justice Center, The National Association of Counties, and The American Psychiatric Association Foundation.
