Pennsylvania DHS Says Hospitals Must Notify Consumers Of Charity Care Status
On December 27, 2017, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) notified hospitals that they must inform consumers about whether or not the consumer qualifies for the hospital charity care program. Failure to inform consumers about the program and whether or not a consumer qualifies will limit the hospital’s ability to claim reimbursement from the state’s uncompensated care fund.
The provisions of “Medical Assistance Bulletin: Hospital Responsibilities Related to the Uncompensated Care Program and Charity Care Plans” replace previous guidance that went into effect on August 30, 2010. DHS issued this new guidance following a review that revealed . . .
