From 2012 to 2016, pediatric emergency department (PED) visits for mental health problems increased by 55.8%. In 2012, there were 50.4 PED visits per 100,000 children. In 2016, there were 78.5 PED visits per 100,000 children. The majority of youth making a PED visit for mental health problems were publicly insured. The mean age of the children was 13.3 years.
