Oregon Autism Insurance ABA Mandate Goes Into Effect On January 1, 2016
On January 1, 2016, Oregon’s autism insurance mandate went into effect; it requires that commercial health plans cover applied behavior analysis (ABA) in plans issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2016. Because the state is still developing a system to license previously unlicensed behavior analysts so that health plans can create ABA provider networks, the state will "grandfather" experienced ABA professionals until June 2018.
The legislation that initially established the mandate had also established a framework for insurer approval and management of treatment for autism by previously unlicensed behavior analysts, and created the Behavior Analysis Regulatory Board . . .
