Increased Medicaid Opioid Addiction Treatment Capacity In Southeastern States Needed

Opioid treatment program (OTP) capacity to accept Medicaid beneficiaries in the southeastern United States is lower than needed to meet estimated demand based on the prevalence of opioid use disorder and county-level treatment admissions in that region. The counties with higher than average rates of opioid use disorder and lower than average treatment admissions among OTPs that accept Medicaid are highly concentrated in Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
