One-Fourth Of Children With Autism Symptoms Are Undiagnosed
Among 4,498 children screened by the 2014 Autism and Developmental Disabilities Network (ADDM), 1,135 (25.2%) had indicators of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) without having an ASD diagnosis documented in health and education records. Of those 1,135 children without a documented ASD diagnosis, 628 (55.3%) were not known to receive ASD services in public school. ADDM has a surveillance program that tracks the prevalence and characteristics of 8-year-old children with ASD in multiple U.S. communities.
