Oklahoma Governor Signs Foster Care Reform Bill
On April 27, 2015, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed legislation, House Bill (HB) 1078, to reform aspects of the state’s foster care system. The key aspects focus on helping children in foster care participate in age-appropriate activities and allowing older youth greater participation in permanency and transition planning. The bill also directs Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Welfare Services division to establish policies and training for identifying children and youth in state custody who are at-risk of sex trafficking. The provisions go into effect November 1, 2015.
