Justice-Involved Youth In Out-Of-Home Placement Dropped By 41% From 2005 To 2014
Between 2005 and 2014, the number of justice-involved youth sanctioned to out-of-home placement in delinquency cases decreased by 41% from 179,400 to 75,400. During the same period, about 18% fewer justice-involved youth went before the court for adjudication. In 2005, 1.2 million juveniles were adjudicated for delinquency cases compared to 974,400 juveniles in 2014. The share of adjudicated youth sanctioned to out-of-home placement remained steady at about 26% in both 2005 and 2014.
