North Carolina ‘Transitions To Community Living Initiative’ Doubles Number Of Individuals With SMI In Supportive Housing In 2014

During 2014, the North Carolina “Transition to Community Living Initiative” doubled the number of people with serious mental illness (SMI) who were placed in supportive housing. During the year, the number of people in supportive housing increased from 186 in January to 375 by December 2014. The state has been working to increase its capacity to provide supportive housing for people with SMI since mid-2012 when it entered a settlement agreement with the federal Department of Justice (DOJ).
