New York Legislators Urge Governor To Raise Rates For DD Support Provider Organizations
In January 2017, a group of New York State legislators launched the bipartisan #bFair2DirectCare campaign to secure a living wage for direct care workers. The legislators are urging Governor Cuomo to include funding in the 2018 state budget to raise Medicaid reimbursement rates for provider organizations that provide direct care services for people with developmental disabilities and brain injuries. For more than a year, disability service provider organizations have been reporting staff turnover rates of 20% and higher. About 9% of staff positions went unfilled due to lack of applicants.
