New York Medicaid Implements Reimbursement Parity For Telehealth
Starting January 1, 2015, the New York Medicaid program and all health plan policies and contracts issued or renewed after that date will reimburse provider organizations for delivering telehealth and telemedicine services at parity with the rate for in-person services. The parity in reimbursements is due to state legislation (Senate Bill 7852 of 2014) that was signed into law on December 29, 2014. The law mandates that private insurers and the state Medicaid program reimburse for direct care, consultation, or remote monitoring telehealth services provided by a variety of professionals: physicians, physician assistants, psychologists, social workers, and dentists.
