New York City Could See Shortage Of Nearly 2,000 Preschool Special Ed Seats In Spring 2020
According to analysis by a Advocates for Children of New York, New York City could see a shortage of between 1,028 and 1,932 preschool special education class seats for three- and four-year-old children with disabilities in New York City by the spring of 2020. This includes 108 to 276 seats needed (18 to 46 classes) of 6:1:2 ratio special education classes (six students, one teacher, two paraprofessionals); 512 to 768 seats needed (64 to 96 classes) of 8:1:2 ratio special education classes; and 408 to 888 seats needed (34 to 74 classes . . .
