New Orleans To Open ‘Low-Barrier’ Homeless Shelter

The City of New Orleans, Louisiana is planning to open a new “low-barrier” overnight homeless shelter to serve chronically homeless adults, males and females, age 18 and older. A low-barrier shelter has no mandatory admission fee, no sobriety test, and no limit on length of stay. The shelter will provide wraparound services, meals, a place to stay during the day, and 100 overnight shelter beds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The goal is to help the shelter residents with barriers, such as serious mental illness or addiction disorder, find a permanent housing solution . . .
