Mood Disorder Most Common Diagnosis Among Medicaid, Inpatient Super-Utilizers; Schizophrenia Number Two
In 2012, among the top ten most common diagnoses for hospital stays among health care “super-utilizers,” mood disorders ranked number one. Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders ranked number two, while diabetes mellitus with complications ranked number three. Super-utilizers are defined as privately insured patients aged 64 years and younger, with three or more hospital stays in 2012, or patients covered by Medicare or Medicaid with four or more hospital stays in 2012.
