Missouri Sues Opioid Manufacturers
On June 21, 2017, the Missouri Attorney General sued three large drug manufacturers and marketers of opioid pain relievers for misrepresenting the risks of opioids. The complaint names Purdue Pharma, Endo Health Solutions, and Janssen Pharmaceuticals. All defendants are accused of making false and deceptive statements in their marketing campaigns about the benefits of their various opioid medications and the risk of addiction. They are also accused of using a seemingly independent third parties, the American Pain Foundation and American Academy of Pain Medicine, to spread misleading statements about the safety of long-term opioid use.
