Mississippi Tops The List Of States With The Most At-Risk Youth
Mississippi has the highest percentage of at-risk youth than any other state during 2017, followed by Louisiana, New Mexico, Alabama, and West Virginia. The percentage of at-risk youth was measured using 10 key metrics with corresponding weights. Mississippi also had the highest percentage of disconnected youth, followed by Louisiana, West Virginia, New Mexico, and Arkansas. Disconnected youth are those that are not attending school or working and do not have education beyond high school. The share of disconnected youth is one of the t10 key metrics used to measure the number of at-risk youth per state.
