Minnesota Dual Eligible Plan Reduced Use Of Assisted Living & Inpatient Care
In Minnesota’s Senior Health Options (MSHO) program for people age 65 and older who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, members were 16% less likely to use assisted living services than similar members in the state’s Medicaid-only health program called Minnesota Senior Care Plus (MSC+). People enrolled in MSHO had greater primary care physician use and lower inpatient hospital and emergency department use. MSHO enrollees were 48% less likely to have a hospital stay than MSC+ enrollees. MSHO enrollees who were hospitalized had 26% fewer stays than MSC+ enrollees.
